We’ve searched the corners of the earth for natural balance and a good place to find it was in Thailand. Zuraida travelled to the Anantara Resort and Spa on the island of Koh Samui. It was here that she found balance is a combination fresh healthy food and time to yourself. Zuraida met Donald Lawso, the head chef at the resort. He says the secret to healthy, nutritious cooking is combining the freshest ingredients, fragrant herbs and cooking with very little oil.
On the other end of the world, Stephen caught up with Patrick Holford in London, author of bestselling books on health and nutrition. He says what we put into our bodies affect our moods, IQ, motivation and energy levels. “The more natural and fresh your food , the better you’ll feel.” He has a few golden rules: graze rather than gorge, eat breakfast like a king and eat food that release sugar slowly.
Amy Kleinhans-Curd, former Miss South Africa, businesswoman and mother says balance does not automatically happen. As an extremely busy woman having to juggle a number of roles, Amy has learned the art of living in the moment. She says: “Being a mother is a very humbling experience and my children have been my greatest teachers. I have become more consciously aware of being sensitive, considerate and more whole. My children are my mirror and that is incredibly profound.”
Dr Sean Gomes started the successful Wellness Warehouse in Cape Town. He has an eco-conscious vision and says good balance comes with good nutrition. Sean recommends that you start with whole foods in their natural form and then diet supplementation of vitamins and minerals. Follow this with some exercise and time out with family and friends and you’re on the road to a healthier, balanced lifestyle.
Next week we look at wellness and relationships! Be sure to watch Life’s a Journey on 9 June on SABC 3 at 8pm.
